Back Porch Glass Chimes 'Frequently Asked Questions' Page
Updated on February 25, 2008
Dean and his New Haircut New Haircut for Dean (FAQ #1 - Why isn't this guy out in the studio getting any work done?)

Here we try to anticipate a few of the questions you might have about our products and our policies. Many of these we've heard at the Buyers Market of American Craft or over the phone. This page won't cover every possibility - we haven't 'heard it all' yet, but you're welcome to drop us a line with any question you might have.

Can The Chimes Go Outside?
For the smaller (18 inches long) chimes we make - absolutely YES! On an open porch under the eaves. Out on a shepherd's hook among the flowers. Just give 'em some swinging room and they should be fine. They aren't bullet-proof, so thunderstorm and hurricane gusts could do them in. For the 44 inch Studio chimes we recommend more protected places with gentler breezes. Those long strings can really swing with a force the shorter strings can't muster.

Do You Sell Online?
No. Not from this website or eBay or anything like that. We're a wholesale studio - we only sell to shops and galleries - and don't compete directly with them. This is why you won't see any prices for our glass on this website. Our complete catalog, with prices and terms, can be found on Wholesale Crafts, but you need to have a retail or wholesale account with them to access the site.

To Be Blunt, What Does Back Porch Glass Offer Their Shops?
First, we offer an attractive line of products. The colored glass is brilliant and the clear glass is iridescent and textured. Light loves this stuff! Second, we have great price points. You'll find pieces you can retail anywhere from $10 to $100. Third, we respect your exclusive territory. If you're a Back Porch Glass customer, we won't sell to anyone else in your Zip Code. Fourth, we strive for service. Orders can be turned around in 2 to 3 weeks. (If they can't, we'll tell you when you order.) We don't charge handling fees. We replace items broken in shipping. And Fifth, we're a small studio and pretty friendly people. When you call us, you know you're talking to an owner and you will get definitive service.

I'm a Store Owner and Would Like to Carry Your Glass - How Do I See the Full Line?
If you're a member of Wholesale Crafts then you already know what you need to do. If you're unfamiliar with Wholesale Crafts then contact us. We can give you a name and password you can use on their visitor page to see everything we have. Or ask us to send you our color sheets and pricing.

I'm Not a Store Owner, but Still Want a Chime - How Can I get One?
Go on over to the Where to Buy page on this website and check around for stores in your area. We have some 170 accounts, so you may find one of our gallery friends. If that doesn't work, contact us and we'll gladly direct you to a gallery that can help you.
------
Do You Accept Special Commissions or Make Exclusive Products?
Yes. In 2007 we made 200 suncatchers for Gateway Community Industries as part of the gifts they handed out at their 50th Anniversary dinner. This particular commission came to us through a local gallery and we 'donated' a portion of our labor to Gateway. Presently we're working with two different retail customers to provide 'exclusive' pieces to them.

Does This Site Show Everything You Make?
No, this is just a tease to get you to contact us.
